Neff Reunion in Arizona

One of my favorite places to go in the world is to visit my family in Arizona. Both of my parents were born and raised there and didn't move out here until after they got married. Most of my cousin, Aunts and Uncles on my moms side still live there. Some of my fondest memories are of visiting them. Now that I am grown I still love to see them and have so much fun while I am there. This visit was for the Neff family reunion. One of the more resent traditions, as in they started it last year, is while we are there we build a boat with things that you find at the campsite and then we race them and they are judged on how they are built. Jake and Mirra built a boat together and called it the Strawberry boat, named by Mirra. She took second place in her age group she had fun helping her daddy and she was so proud of her boat. Sadly I can't remember what award she won though. I am such a fabulous mom I know.

This is a picture of my cousin Julie's little boy. He and Mirra were friends immediately and had fun playing and exploring together.
Mason had a blast playing. He could almost go anywhere and had so many people that wanted to talk to him and walk around with him. He loved it but he was ready to go home when we left. This picture was taken when I was trying to get everything packed up and ready. He was standing by the car and he kept saying "Go, Go, Go." I'm not sure that he realized it was such a long trip home though. He does great in the car but he is definitely dine by the time we get home.

New Hobby!

For mothers day a few years ago Jacob got me a cricut cutter. I have had a lot of fun with it but I think my favorite thing is to cut vinyl. This week end I did the biggest project I have done yet and it turned out so cute. I couldn't do it with out Jake though. I show him what I want. He puts into a program for me and then I cut it out. This is my freind Cami's nursery for her baby due next month. It was so fun to do and turned out so cute.

Random Pictures of the kids!!

My nephew Jordan has been visiting from California this last few weeks. He I such a cute boy. My kids love him and had so much fun playing with him. One day before church Jordan decided to see if Mason would like his suit. He looked so cute. Then it was Mirra's turn to try it on.

Mirra and Mason have loved the last couple of months living with Grandma and Grandpa. There house is always busy. There is always a visitor and someone to play with. I am nervous to get back into a house of our own because they are going to be bored out of there minds. One of Mason's favorite things is Grandma's bikes. She has 5 of 6 different things to ride. He loves them and he constantly disappears we find him out side riding his bike. He is getting so big and he is so handsome I just wish I could get the passy out more often. I think we are going to ween him of it once we get settled in our won house.

Mirra loves her dolls. Most of them are packed in storage right now waiting for a new house but she still finds things to dress up. Her favorite right now is her Jessy doll Grandma Nielsen gave her for her birthday. Here she has dressed Jessy to match her and Taylor her cousin is with her American girl doll. Mirra is anxious to get a house so she can get her stuff back. She asks me almost everyday if something is in storage. Then she acts so surprised when I say it is. Silly girl I hope we have a house soon.

The Forth of July

The 4th of July. This is a holiday that doesn’t have very much preparation; we don’t give out or receive gifts. We don’t run around shopping and preparing for weeks in advance. It just seems that it is not a very big deal but what an important day to remember.

Growing up I was always taught to be very respectful of our flag and our country. That means when the flag was being presented you stand up, put your hand over your heart, take off your hat if you have one on and stand quietly and respectfully. Which I have always tried to do but I don’t think I ever really grasped the importance of doing so or even why we were following these actions until recently.
This weekend as we gathered as a family Dad tried to help us understand by teaching us about the star spangled banner and the circumstances of how it was written. I am sure I was told this before but it really clicked with me this time. I am going to try and tell the story here.
"The Star Spangled Banner"
During the War of 1812, Francis Scott Key who was a lawyer, went aboard a British ship to negotiate the release of some American prisoners. One of the prisoners was a physician that the Americans needed back on our land. Once on the ship Francis Scott Key and the prisoners were not allowed to leave, Francis was told that there would be no need after that night to make the negotiation because there was going to be an attack on Baltimore and the British army would win the war as soon as the attack was over. The entire British fleet was waiting beyond the ship that Francis was on ready to put all of their force into taking down the city. The Americans were given an out though they just had to take down the American flag that flew over Fort McHenry showing that they would surrender. As long as the flag was still flying the British would still attack. As a result of this, Francis was unable to do anything but watch the bombarding of the American forces on the night of September 13, 1814.
When the smoke cleared the next morning, Francis was able to see that the American flag was still waving and he knew that the Americans did not surrender. It was this experience that inspired Francis to write a poem describing his experience, "The Defense of Fort McHenry" it has become better known as “The Star Spangled Banner.
Oh, say can you see, by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming

Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming

And the rockers' red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there

O say, does that star spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave
Later Francis found out that people had literally help up the flagpole over the night to keep the flag flying. They were killed holding up the American flag.
I am proud to be an American and I am so thankful for the people who have given up their lives so that my family and I can live in this beautiful country.

Happy Birthday My Sweet Girl

Yesterday my baby girl turned 5. I don't know if I can explain how this makes me feel. I am so extremely happy for her because she wants to go to school and learn. I am so sad for me because when I look at her I feel like I have missed so much of her life and she should still be little and cuddly. I don't want her to grow up and learn things that make her sad or have some little girl in her class be mean to her. I hope she has lots of friends and is never shy. I hope she never feels inadequate or unappreciated. I hope she is never scared or hurt. I know I can not protect her completely though I would really like to. Anyway I had a really hard time planning a birthday for her because of these emotions I have had but we had a great day. Jacob baked 2 cakes for her the night before and I got up early so that Mirra and I could decorate them. Mirra loved them and we had fun. After lunch we (meaning Jacob, Mason, Mirra, Taylor, Devin and Preston) met Hayley, Aaron, Wesley and Karissa at Seven peaks water park and swam all day. We are all a little burnt but it was fun. After we went home had pizza and a small Luau with cake and ice cream and opened presents. Wyatt, Kamilla, Hazel, Carson, Ian, and Isacc met us there. We had a long exhausting day but it was a lot of fun. Mirra got spoiled again but she is so worth it.

Art City Days

On the second week in June every year is our city celebration. This year they had a childrens parade Early on Friday morning. Mirra, Landon (a cute little friend of hers) and Mason all went. I pushed Mason in the Stroller while the kids road their bikes. They were in heaven. They both thought they were so cute riding in a parade. They would wave at the grandmas on the sidelines and they had fun. After they got a ribbon and a popcicle. It was simple but fun for the kids.
Another thing we do that week is my Dad gets us up really early on Saturday morning and takes us up to watch the balloons launch. Mason loved it he thought that was the most amazing thing to watch the big balloons get filled up and go up. He kept yelling "fly, fly, fly." it was fun. Mirra was no so exited but she still loved to go.I really think she was more excited about the free balloon she got to take home. After it is tradition to go get breatfast at the fire station and go to the parade together. We have a lot of fun. Thanks Dad for giving us such great traditions.

Mirra's Dance Recital 2010

Mirra has been in dance for the last 2 years. She has had fun getting to know some of the girls and lerning the dances. Up until this recital thought she has spent most of her time singing the song rather then actually dancing. We were shocked to see her really do the dances. She did so well. the preporation wasn't very fun though. Poor girl had to get up early in the morning to get a bath and get the curlers in her hair. We then had to be at the dress rehersal at noon and she was there for 3 and a half hours. Then get all dolled up and it was off to the recital. Grandma and Grandpa Nielsen, Wyatt and Kamila, Becca, and Aunt Heidi were all able to make it there to suprot Mirra. Mason was the biggest fan though. He was yelling WooHoo through the whole thing. He was so excited to see his big sister dance. We are so proud of you Mirra.

Arizona Trip

My cousin got married in Arizona on April 24TH. This cute suit is one my mom gave Mason for Easter. He looks like such a little man in it. I love when he wears it. I wish I could get him to hold still with out me holding him in place but he is one active little boy. He did hold still long enough to hug this little girl. She is the brides baby but I can not remember her name. Sorry Mary. Anyway she was not very impressed with Mason Hugging her but he sure like her.
Mirra Looked like a Princess as usual and was so excited to get to dance with her Daddy. I know I love to brag about how cute they are but I think my kids are amazing. A few days before we left for Arizona we finally sold our house. It has been up on the market for over a year. So when we get home we get to move in with Grandma and Grandpa while we find us a new house.

Mothers Day

Today is Mothers Day and I am so proud of the little girl that calls me Mommy. She has made me realize today that maybe I am doing something right as a Mom. That is one of the greatest feelings in the world.
Last night Mirra went shopping with my mom to get some groceries. As they were in line to check out Mirra says "Grandma, I need to get My Mom something for Mothers day."
Grandma says "what did you want to get her?"
"Flowers."
Grandma picked out a nice bouquet but Mirra picked out this one and said they were the ones for her mom. When she came home she was very excited to give them to me. She gave me a big hug and said "Mommy you are as beautiful as the sunshine so I bought these flowers for you. Do you like them Mommmy? I thought you would love them because they look like the sunshine and you are like the sunshine Mom."
I have the sweetest girl in the world. I love you Mirra. You are my sunshine too.

Mirra's new glasses

Mirra Got glasses this week. She looks so beautiful in them. She has been so worried that she would look silly in them. She has actually noticed a lot of kids at stores and other places that have glasses to which made her feel a little bit better. She is starting to really like them. She did ask me the other day though if she is going to have to wear them forever. Sorry you got your mommies eyes baby girl......
